Sandbox VR to Open First Arizona Venue in Gilbert
Sandbox VR is bringing its immersive technology to the Valley. It will open its first Arizona location in Gilbert, following the launch of dozens of successful venues across California, Texas, Colorado, Florida and several other states.
Before the permanent venue opens this spring in Gilbert, a limited-time pop-up experience will operate in Mesa as a preview of the full experience. The temporary installation will feature a single-room format, and further information on its launch will be announced.
Sandbox VR describes its offering as an immersive virtual environment built around both original content and well-known entertainment properties. The technology allows participants to move freely within interactive digital worlds, including experiences based on television series such as Stranger Things and Squid Game.
Sessions are intended for groups of two to six people. During each experience, guests wear motion-tracking equipment that captures their actions and interactions inside the virtual environment. After the session, participants receive a personalised cinematic trailer that records key moments from their experience.
In addition to live programming, users can view on-demand content, including major news stories, local political coverage, investigative reports, Arizona-centred features and archive footage from the 12News collection.
The Gilbert location is expected to open in the spring. The company has also indicated that additional venues are likely to be announced in the coming months.
Separately, viewers can access 12News programming through the free 12+ application, which provides live streaming of ongoing coverage and video updates on local openings, such as Sandbox VR, as well as other community events. The service offers daily broadcasts, including Today in AZ, 12News, and the lifestyle program Arizona Midday, and is available on Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV.
The platform provides live video throughout the day, covering breaking news, local developments, and weather. It also features occasional visual segments highlighting scenery, locations, and entertainment venues across Arizona.
